What to Look For in Your Mate, Part 3 Print E-mail


I did happen to notice that most guys didn't appear to be too concerned about age. If they were, they wouldn't have listed such a big range. His age is 30, his match range is 23-27. His age is 40, his match range is 20-29. His age is 50, his match range is 18-20. His age is 65, so his IQ must be 20. I'll bet the entire female population over the age of 30 have noticed guys seem to want women half their age. Not ALL mind you, just a high percentage. So if you guys put an age the same or even older than your own, pat yourself on the back because I recognize and applaud you.

What do I dare say about this age thing? It's been long standing that guys, especially those who fall into this "middle age" range, feel they need to be with a younger woman to make them feel younger. If I were a guy dating someone half my age, the only thing I would feel is like I was a babysitter.

Every once in a while you will see a younger man with an older woman, but not very often. It's like there's an ancient, secret law dating back to cave man days that the man is required to be older. If this is indeed the case, I certainly haven't seen any bills in Legislation that will be changing this anytime soon. However, thanks to the many female schoolteachers out there who are dating their twelve-year-old students, they could be passing a new bill to make this okay any minute now.

Now honestly guys, do you think you can find your soul mate in a gal half your age? I can only imagine how fun your first few dates will be. Should you go to McDonald's or ChuckE Cheese's? Do you go cruising up and down Main Street or stay home and watch reruns of 90210? I'll bet you can't wait to show all your buddies down at the bowling alley the pictures that were taken at the "Senior Prom," I'm sure that'll make them jealous. One thing's for sure, you could definitely be an influence in helping your date with her homework, especially with their history lesson, since you were there! Am I being harsh? You bet. But someone had to say it; heaven knows we gals all think it.

Guys, would it be so terrible to go out with someone a little closer to your age? Today's forty-year-old is way younger than the 1950's forty-year-old. There's so much more we can do today to help us stay young. Hair dye, contacts, better education on health and fitness, and for gosh sakes, plastic surgery. God would not have put plastic surgeons on this earth if He didn't feel a need to apologize for saddling us with gravity. Plus, if you're out with a woman closer to your age you won't have to keep telling people, "No, this isn't my daughter, it's my girlfriend."

Glancing through the women's ads I'd assume they would naturally put an age range at least ten years older, you know, so they could be on a more equal intellectual level. Oh, hold on to your trousers, guys, I was just kidding...kind of. A good percentage of women put an age range between five years younger to ten years older. Again, this is a personal preference; you will be the only one that can answer this question to your liking.

If you're forty-eight and you respond to a person's ad who is 20-30, don't be too disappointed if you don't hear back from them. You may think you would be perfect for them, but maybe you're a little older than what they're looking for. If you go outside the parameters set in someone's ad, there is a chance the person could respond, but be prepared for rejection if they don't. Think twice before you set yourself up for a letdown. Be realistic, people.
